Every puppy has its unique charm. Some are adorably chubby, while others captivate us with their stunning eyes or fluffy coats. Some win our hearts with their mischievous antics, and others stand out with their unusual colors. Then there are those like Salvador Dolly, who steal the spotlight with an endearing feature: her mustache!
Salvador Dolly is a delightful puppy from Dallas, known for her distinctive mustache that stretches from one side of her lip to the other. She is one of 11 puppies born to the same mother and currently resides in a foster home in New York.
According to Allison Seelig of Hearts & Bones Rescue, “It’s puppy season in Dallas, and the shelter sees many moms with litters. Salvador Dolly and her siblings were taken in by Dallas Animal Services, which is one of the busiest shelters in the country. Their mother and her 11 babies were cared for there for two weeks, but because puppies are at risk of becoming sick in shelters, we moved them to safety.”
Thanks to the efforts of both Dallas Animal Services and Hearts & Bones Rescue, the entire family of 12, mom and puppies, was swiftly relocated from the shelter to a comfortable foster home. “They are now safe, receiving medical care, and being monitored until they are old enough to be weaned,” Allison said. The puppies are only five weeks old and are still being bottle-fed and nurtured until they become stronger.
Although the puppies are currently living together in the same foster home, Hearts & Bones Rescue is planning to transport them to New York City in late August. Once there, the puppies will be placed in different foster homes until they find their forever families.
“The puppies are very active and mischievous, just like their mom,” said Allison. “Each of them is adorable and unique. While Salvador Dolly has already attracted lots of interest, her siblings are still searching for homes in New York City.” The rescue organization is also looking for families in NYC who are willing to foster the puppies until they find permanent homes.
Running a rescue like this is costly, and donations are always needed to cover the health care and other expenses for Dolly and her family. “It’s expensive to care for a group of 12, so any donations are greatly appreciated,” Allison said, encouraging people to support the puppies’ well-being through the rescue’s website.
Hearts & Bones Rescue is a foster-based organization that operates in both Dallas, TX and New York City. The team works with overburdened shelters, such as those in Dallas, where the dozens often bring in animals. Their primary goal is to save as many lives as possible and to help dogs find loving homes. “Once the dogs leave the shelter, they are placed in foster homes in Dallas for two weeks to ensure their health,” Allison explained. “Afterward, they’re sent to New York City, where many people are eager to adopt.”
