Are you a dog lover? If so, you have probably seen some funny photos of dogs attempting to catch treats mid-air. These photos are the work of Christian Vieler, a German photographer who specializes in capturing the candid expressions of our canine friends.

The determination on this dog’s face is inspiring.
The thrill of the catch never gets old.
Vieler started his photography career in 2012 when he bought a new camera and decided to test it on his Labrador retriever, Lotte. He was fascinated by how Lotte reacted to the treats he threw at her and decided to try it with other dogs. He soon realized every dog had a unique personality and facial expression when faced with a flying snack.

That moment when you see that you are about to get a treat.
Vieler invited his friends and neighbors to bring their dogs to his studio, where he set up a black background and a high-speed flash. He then tossed treats at the dogs and snapped photos of their reactions. Some dogs looked eager, some looked confused, some scared, and some downright goofy. Vieler captured all these emotions in his photos. And he later shared them on his website and social media.

The joy of a successful catch
Vieler’s photos went viral online, and he received requests from dog owners worldwide who wanted him to photograph their pets. He also published two photo books, “Treat!” and “Nice Nosing You.” He aims to show the beauty and diversity of dogs, as well as their joy and humor.
One dog, one treat, one incredible catch
The perfect catch every time
Vieler’s photography skills take work to achieve. As we mentioned, he uses a fast shutter speed and a flash to freeze the moment of impact, and he has to coordinate with his assistant, who throws the treats to the dogs. He also has to deal with the mess and chaos when dozens of dogs visit his studio in Selm, Germany. But he says he enjoys every minute of it and loves seeing the dogs’ faces light up when they get a treat.
Vieler said he loved working with dogs because they were honest and spontaneous. He said he never knew what to expect from them and that every photo session was a surprise. He also said he enjoyed making people smile and laugh with his photos and hoped to inspire more people to appreciate and respect dogs.

Vieler also sells his photos as fine art prints, wall art, calendars, cards, and other products on his online store, where dog lovers can find their favorite motives and support his work. He also offers dog shooting sessions for those who want to have their dogs photographed by him. He travels around Europe to meet different dogs and their owners, and he always tries to capture the essence and beauty of each dog.
When you have a treat in sight, nothing else matters.
The moment before the catch is always full of excitement.
Vieler’s photography proves how loving the bond between humans and dogs is and the fun and happiness they bring each other. His photos also show us that dogs are not just animals but individuals with personalities and emotions.
