Memphis, a two-year-old dog with a love for adventure, had always been known for his exploring spirit. Adopted by Felecia Schoonover, he frequently left his yard to explore the neighborhood, yet always returned home after his little adventures. One time, Memphis even made an unexpected visit to a nearby bar, much to the amusement of his owner. Despite his wandering ways, Memphis was friendly and well-liked, and when he stayed out too long, kind strangers would often care for him until Schoonover could bring him back home.
However, in April 2019, one of Memphis’ adventures took an unexpected turn. While Schoonover was showering and her kids were playing outside, Memphis seized the opportunity to slip away unnoticed. But this time, he didn’t return. Felecia quickly launched a search effort, posting on social media, contacting local animal shelters, and scouring the neighborhood for any signs of him. Days turned into weeks, and despite her best efforts, Memphis remained missing. Still, Felecia didn’t give up. For years, she regularly checked the animal shelter’s website and Facebook page, holding onto the hope that Memphis might one day return.
Then, years later, her hopes were unexpectedly answered. She stumbled across a social media post from Memphis’ current family, announcing that their beloved dog had recently gone missing. After reading the post, Felecia realized it was Memphis. Although the family soon found him again, Felecia made a difficult decision: she let Memphis stay with them. Despite discovering that someone had taken him and sold him to this family, she knew he was loved and cared for in his new home.
Though it was painful to know that Memphis had been living just across town for all those years, Felecia didn’t want to disrupt his new life. She and her children missed him deeply, but she chose not to contact the family, feeling that Memphis was happy where he was. As a gesture of love and hope, she left a note at the local animal shelter stating that she would gladly take Memphis back if his new family ever needed to part with him.
But fate had other plans. While Felecia had adopted another dog, she never stopped thinking about Memphis. Then, she was reunited with her beloved dog in an unexpected turn of events. Memphis had the same warm and playful personality as before, instantly bonding with the new addition to the family—his “baby sister.” He seamlessly fit back into their lives, showering his family affectionately, especially Felecia’s children, who were overjoyed to have him back.
Memphis is now part of his old and new families’ stories, and his return has brought happiness. The reunion was bittersweet, but Schoonover is grateful for her time with her adventurous pup again, enjoying the love and companionship he has always offered.
